SHAKESPEARE - AS YOU LIKE IT CONTINUES🐈 🐈

(circa. 21 Julie 2024)

DID YOU LISTEN?

If you LISTENED properly, you would've noticed that the word "LOVE" is not mentioned once, neither "LOOSE / LOST", "GIVE / GIVING", "LISTEN / HEAR" or "TALK / SAY". It's very clear that the Person can't be the other Person and needed more than that Person. This opens the door wide to assume that the following words describe the "meaning" of the Song: Prevented; Wanting; Played; Understand; Moved; More and Knew. There are a lot more words that can be added to this list, but I picked these because they depict VOLUNTARY ACTIONS and when People do things VOLUNTARY it uses ENERGY. Energy CAN BE MEASURED as Mass MULTIPLIED by the Speed of Light Squared or e=mc squared (thanks Alfred). Just as an example, breathing is an INVOLUNTARY ACTION (unless you are a Dolphin), because we do it without thinking about it, automatically, naturally and only really focus on it when it becomes difficult to breathe. LUCKILY this Song doesn't reveal what the Person did or tried to get to know the other Person, so this writer will assume that the Three Questions played a roll. There are TWO lines in this Song that can be applied to EVERYONE you know, all the Names on the cards, your whole life:

Nothing is so good, it lasts eternally

...

No one is completely on your side

Eternally means: In a way that lasts forever or a very long time.

Completely means: Having all parts or elements; lacking nothing; whole; entire; full.

And this is where I draw my FIRST CONCLUSION: You can know someone as well as you can, whether the Person is a Lover, Friend, Parent, Sibling etc. and you share all the good and bad things with each other, but Mother Nature (if nothing else) will ensure it won't last forever. If the good things come to an end because of something another Person does, or maybe something you do, you need to deal with it, learn from it and NOT REPEAT it. You can also NOT RELY on someone else being on your side entirely, even your Spouse. I'm not saying that you have to be aware that you'll get stabbed in the back or something. But being part of the Homo Sapiens Sapiens Species means you can Learn, Remember, Reason and make Intellectual Decisions to Survive. So when a Person is not Completely on your Side, the ONLY question you need to answer honestly is whether that Person is more AGAINST you than WITH you.

And when you NOW look at the Cards with the Names and Relationships on them, the answer to the question of whether you need to get to know someone more, must be pretty obvious!!!

THE STAGE IS SET

The Monologue basically takes us through the Circle of Life, ending with the 7th Stage being similar to the First. It reminds me of a quote I once heard by someone I can't Google: "Therefore remember that the Old Age needs so Little, but they need that Little so MUCH". In a Perfect World W.S. would be right, but Nature gave us AIDS, Cancer, Dementia and more, where People create Suppression, Armed Conflicts, Wars etc. each in its own way hurtling People to a "Childness Stage" long before it is due. Feel free to Read my Paper on "Supply and Demand vs Hearing and Listening".

The first line of The Monologue is almost predictable, because to what else would he have compared the World too than something he is familiar with - a Stage and then Players. If you "played" along with organizing the Names on Cards, you're Stage with Players is set. You probably spent time thinking about People you used to know who aren't part of your life right now, but it's OK, because life prepares us for that. W.S. also describes the Stages in such detail that you don't have to wonder what each Stage involves, what the Needs and Wants are and how People react to each Stage. It's a fact that as we go through life, our needs change, our abilities change, our World changes and with that the People in our Lives at certain Stages change as well. We really don't have CONTROL over these Life Stages, BUT we can Control OUR STAGE.

A Person decides what "Roll" another Person is going to Play on his or her Stage, even though we can't always Control WHO will appear on Stage. The thing I kept missing when I read Blog after Blog about The Monologue, was that no one gave a satisfactory answer to the line: "And one man in his time plays many parts". Everything I read was the same of the same, an Introduction to the Seven Stages about to follow - I wasn't convinced. Shakespeare never wrote in Riddles and he never wrote something unless it had MEANING and I get a different meaning for that line which Scholars might Completely Disagree with. Going back to Figure C and keeping in mind that you're looking at your "Stage" and "Players", three things should be obvious:

  • Your Stage has boundaries, it's not endless, the size doesn't matter;
  • The reason for there being a Stage, is to show a Play or Performance (remember in Shakespeare's time a Stage was sometimes nothing more than an empty space on a floor or ground between a crowd) for others to be able to see;
  • What happened to those "Players" who made an Entrance but they're not on your Stage anymore?

If you paid attention, the answer is in Line 1 and 2: ALL the World is a Stage and ALL the men and women players - NOT JUST YOURS! So let me TRY and show you what is written:

Figure D

Looking at Figure D, it's obvious that there isn't a border, because The World doesn't have a beginning or end - it's a Ball. Everything inside the Black Square is your Stage, Life, World right now, with you being in the Center of it. Your Stage however is surrounded by other Stages as well and these are the Stages of those People who are currently part of your "Play". Some Players Enters and Exists (Blue Double-Arrows), but you also get "Players" who Enters, but never seem to leave. It's not a "Bad Thing" for those People to linger longer, but make sure it is the RIGHT People and not the NUMBER of People that counts. The reason why I used Double-Arrows is simple, it might seem that these People Enter and Exist your Stage, but at the same time you Enter and Exist their Stages and it can be only ONCE or a few times during your life and I'll state it again: You can not really Control who appears on your Stage and when, but you can Control the Roll that Person is going to play.

On a BIGGER scale, "All the World" could look like this, right now:

Figure E

Which brings me to my SECOND CONCLUSION: People DO NOT realize that during their lifetimes they meet certain People at the right time and make them part of their lives ("Stage"), IGNORING the fact that they are themselves "Players" on the other Person's "Stage" and that Person is on another "Stage" and so on. Every "Stage" in The World is either Directly or Indirectly LINKED to another "Stage and therefore whatever happens on one Stage affects another Stage directly or indirectly. People might think that the Ukraine War, for instance, is Russia against "The West", but what happened Globally when Russia didn't withdraw? Oil Prices increased, the U.S. Dollar's Value increased, The G7's influence on the Global Economy took a dive and so on until we can stop the train in South Africa.

Interest Rates increased rapidly and with an incompetent Government, Inflation is out of control. Government is taking on Foreign Debt to Finance - WAIT FOR IT - GOVERNMENT EXPENSES like Social Grants, State Pensions and so on - NOT to grow the Economy! FACT: A Government can not borrow money from International sources to grow it's Economy, they can only borrow to cover the Cost of Running the Government. South Africa's Foreign Sovereign Debt is 66.65% of its GDP, meaning that for every R1 being Produced, almost 67c goes towards PAYING BACK Foreign Debt.

Let me TRY to show you what would be the affect if we remove just two "Stages" from The World Stage (in Figure E):

Can you spot the difference?

If, for argument's sake, the Stage that was removed, where the Red X now is, was Amerika. Not only would every other Stage be impacted directly or indirectly, but two "Stages" would be completely cut off from the World Stage (Top Left and Right). This might seem far fetched and I have no evidence to prove my theory, just History. When South Africa declared Independence and "Apartheid", the International Community tried to force change and tried to Isolate South Africa by imposing Economic and Diplomatic Sanctions. It was a willful act to cut South Africa out of the World Stage.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

I wrote at the beginning that I was Intrigued by the man who wrote The Monologue and not just The Monologue. Most People will agree with me when I say that he was Talented, Popular and, in HIS DAY, very Intelligent. Well-known as a Playwright, he was a Poet, a Painter and a Novelist. I think most of all that he was a Philosopher that was able to look at The World around him, not just his little corner, and via his work he was able to inform his audiences, not just entertain them. Of all the Plays he wrote, just ONE was set in England. I can go on with facts about him, but none of them answers the question.

What Intrigues me is that his works are still popular today, 400 years after it was written, even though there were other Playwrights and Poets in his day. He wrote about Kings and Queens, Noblemen and Commoners, Love and Murder thereby reaching a wider audience than others. He was GIFTED, not just Talented and Intellectual, because he was able to write about events and history in such a way for anyone to understand, not just a select few. He had to know that his plays had to mean something and that the audience must be able to understand. There was no point in proving his brilliance by writing for a select audience, the brilliance was that he was able to write for all and he knew they would understand it.

I almost want to compare him to Ennio Morricone. When you listen to THIS performance of Gabriel's Oboe and you count the number of melodies playing at the same time by different instruments, you'll be amazed! I lost track after 9 melodies, a full orchestra and choir. The POINT is this, while it's possible to create the most intriguing story and characters, or melodies with instruments, it is possible for these works to be appreciated by all, thereby Complimenting your audience's ability and not underestimating them. That's a GIFT!

I found out just before writing this that he was considered very wealthy, had three children and only one Grand child who never had children. There are NO living descendants of Shakespeare!

FINITIONE

Maybe he did or maybe he didn't, but Shakespeare managed to write a piece, for a comedy, that is apt and "Blog-wars" going on. Scholars actually "take each other on", writing about how they disagree with another about the meaning of this Monologue. They don't hide their feelings about this piece, or Shakespeare for that matter. He has The World talking, dissecting his work while the rest of us are being kept entertained. His "World" might have been a Physical Stage, with Players entering and exiting, but he managed to get one man to think past that and opened up his mind to think about his "World" in relation to the rest of The World...
ME.

MY OPINION ABOUT THE SANCTIONS AGAINST SOUTH AFRICA

It DID NOT achieve the INTENDED Goal. According to International Law, Sanctions can not be imposed onto a Country when it can cause a Humanity Crisis like Hunger, for instance. It should target a Country's Government Policies and the Country's Economy to prevent Foreign Investment and International Trade. Sanctions can also be targeted against specific Individuals or Diplomats with the goal to prevent them to travel Internationally or do Business with International Companies. Sanctions against South Africa had little to no affect, because we were still able to Produce enough basic foods. Government invested heavily in the Arms Industry (who knew we had Nuclear Bombs), South Africa had Gold, some clever guy came up with an idea to make Petrol and Diesel from Coal since S.A. couldn't buy a lot of Oil (Surprise!) and S.A. even managed to export certain goods and import other goods. South African Citizens were still able to travel Internationally, with certain restrictions, but couldn't buy Internationally manufactured products. It was only in 1974 that the U.N. Suspended South Africa from participating in its work.

BY THE WAY. One of the Terms of the Treaty of Vereeniging was: "To avoid discussing the native (Black) enfranchisement issue until self-government had been given". You can read it HERE if you want to. I'm NOT a Racist, but a Realist, therefore the English forced South Africa to NOT allow Black South Africans to Vote in 1902.
